King James Version

king james version
What makes the King James Version the least accurate of all the translations?

I have seen a lot of reason about why the King James Version is the most accurate but I have not seen how it is not accurate and I have friends who claim it is the least accurate of all the translations.

The paraphrased versions are the most “inaccurate.”
Personally I use the Children’s Bible….. a mildly paraphrased translation.

The King James is a scholarly work. The manuscripts available at its writing were limited. But least accurate, no. Hard to understand at times?….. yes.

But the old English is what sets it apart. It truly is a literary work worthy of respect.

The Gospels: Authorized King James Version

$13.34

Jesus Christ is the central figure in Western culture, and one of the most influential in all human history. Almost everything we know about him is contained in four narratives of his life, death, and resurrection–the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This unique edition of the Gospels, in the Authorized King James version, provides readers with all the information they could need to appreciate the theological importance and literary and cultural significance of these great writings. The volume features an illuminating introduction by W. R. Owens, who guides the reader through the four Gospels in turn, highlighting how each offers its own distinctive and memorable portrait of Jesus, and discussing the importance of the 1611 translation and its influence. The book’s explanatory notes clarify obscurities and allusions, ranging from aspects of life in first-century Palestine to seventeenth-century phraseology. There are also glossaries of Words and Terms, Persons, and Places, a chronology of the life of Jesus alongside historical events, and a map of Palestine in the time of Jesus.

The Proper Name Version of the King James Bible

The Proper Name Version of the King James Bible

$58.01

The KJBPNV is based on the King James Version of the Bible, in which the Word of God has been preserved. It restores the proper name of God, rather than using a traditional title in place of His name. His name is written as Yahweh and as its short form, Yah. The name of the Messiah is written as Yahshua, thus retaining the meaning of His name as Yah is Salvation. The text is made more readable by updating thousands of words into modern English. Significant changes, which might affect the meaning of the Scriptures, are not made in sentence structure or biblical content.

Bible: The Story of the King James Version 1611-2011

Bible: The Story of the King James Version 1611-2011

$15.14

Produced during the lifetime of Shakespeare and Donne, the King James Version of the Bible has long been viewed as the most elegantly written and poetic of the many English translations. Now reaching its four hundredth anniversary, it remains one of the most frequently used Bibles in the English-speaking world, especially in America. Lavishly illustrated with reproductions from early editions of the KJB, Bible: The Story of the King James Version offers a vivid and authoritative history of this renowned translation, ranging from the Bible’s inception to the present day. Gordon Campbell, a leading authority on Renaissance literatures, tells the engaging and complex story of how this translation came to be commissioned, who the translators were, and how the translation was accomplished. Campbell does not end with the printing of that first edition, but also traces the textual history from 1611 to the establishment of the modern text by Oxford University Press in 1769, shedding light on the subsequent generations who edited and interacted with the text and bringing to life the controversies surrounding later revisions. In addition, the author examines the reception of the King James Version, showing how its popularity has shifted through time and territory, ranging from adulation to deprecation and attracting the attention of a wide variety of adherents. Since the KJB is more widely read in America today than in any other country, Campbell pays particular attention to the history of the KJB in the United States. Finally, the volume includes appendices that contain short biographies of the translators and a guide to the 74-page preliminaries of the 1611 edition. A fitting tribute to the enduring popularity of the King James Version, Bible offers an illuminating history of this most esteemed of biblical translations.
