Free Prayer Request

Can I make more than one prayer request for 54 day rosary novena?

I would like to pray for more than one person when I will soon attempt to say the 54 day rosary novena.
I would like to know if I can say more than one prayer request , or is it one prayer request per 54 day novena?

To quote the Pieta Book, pg. 43. If you wish to obtain a favor, pray 3 nine-day rosary novenas (27 days of petition). Pray 3 nine-day rosary novenas (27 days of thanksgiving). It doesn’t say anything about more than one request. However, according to tradition and usage it’s one favor per 54-day novena. The lady in charge of the current ongoing 54-day novena in our local prayer group insists it’s only one. Personally, I don’t try to limit the compassion of the Blessed Mother or the generosity of God in such a way. If you feel God is leading you to address the needs of more than one person feel free to do so. Don’t let legalism stifle the Holy Spirit.

From "Cheerful — By Request": The editor paid for the lunch (as editors do). He lighted his seventh cigarette and leaned back. The conversation, which had zigzagged from the war to Zuloaga, and from Rasputin the Monk to the number of miles a Darrow would go on a gallon, narrowed down to the thin, straight line of business. "Now don’t misunderstand. Please We’re not presuming to dictate. Dear me, no We have always felt that the writer should be free to express that which is in his — ah — heart. But in the last year we’ve been swamped with these drab, realistic stories. Strong, relentless things, you know, about dishwashers, with a lot of fine detail about the fuzz of grease on the rim of the pan. And then those drear and hopeless ones about fallen sisters who end it all in the East River. The East River must be choked up with ‘em. Now, I know that life is real, life is earnest, and I’m not demanding a happy ending, exactly. But if you could — that is — would you — do you see your way at all clear to giving us a fairly cheerful story? Not necessarily Glad, but not so darned Russian, if you get me. Free to Pray Free to Love: Growing in Prayer and Compassion

God’s love sets us free — free from anxiety and fear, free to become our true selves. In a warm, personal style Fr. Max Oliva guides us on a journey that leads to our true selves, that part of us where we encounter the unconditional love of God. Oliva blends the spirituality of St. Ignatius, John of the Cross, and Teresa of Avila with the wisdom of the East as he describes various forms of prayer: meditation on the scriptures, prayer of the imagination, centering prayer, and quiet prayer. In addition, he shares a form of prayer developed out of his own experience which he calls the "Freedom Prayer", a way of rooting out the fears and compulsions that enslave us.

Torrey on Prayer

Torrey on Prayer

$9.99

At the request of Dwight L. Moody, Torrey wrote a book late in the nineteenth century entitled How to Pray; and God used that book to stir many thousands to develop a regular prayer life. A great work began as a result of that book, spanning across Australia and New Zealand in 1902, and extending to England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, where it gave birth to much of the great Welsh Revival of 1904. Subsequently it went on to India and many other lands, resulting in the conversion of hundreds of thousands of souls. Torrey on Prayer is much fuller and more complete than How to Pray. It contains Torrey's updated version of his original book, and covers the whole subject of prayer, not only in its relation to revivals, but also in its relation to the various aspects of Christian life and activity.

A Rope and a Prayer

A Rope and a Prayer

The compelling and insightful account of a New York Times reporter’s abduction by the Taliban, and his wife’s struggle to free him. In November 2008, David Rohde, a Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent for The New York Times , was kidnapped by the Taliban and held captive for seven months in the tribal areas of Pakistan. In the process, Rohde became the first American to witness how Pakistan’s powerful military turns a blind eye toward a Taliban ministate thriving inside its borders. In New York, David’s wife Kristen Mulvihill, together with his family, kept the kidnapping secret for David’s safety and struggled to navigate a labyrinth of conflicting agendas, misinformation, and lies. Part memoir, part work of journalism, A Rope and a Prayer is a story of duplicity, faith, resilience, and love.

The Questioner's Prayer

The Questioner’s Prayer

$3.95

"Why Me, God? Why Now?" Some of the most sincere prayers we can address to God are, "Why, God?," "When, God?," or "How, God?" Facing our ignorance and lack of understanding is the basis of any ongoing prayer dialogue with God. Consider what happens when we’re facing a life crisis — death, illness, or loss — and the only kind of prayer we’re capable of is a string of questions flung to heaven. But we can also feel free to ask questions of God in everyday prayer as we look to him for motivation, inspiration, and understanding. An experienced pastor currently serving as Bishop of Charleston, South Carolina, Bishop Robert J. Baker says a question put to God can be a real sign of faith and trust, especially when we bring those questions to prayer. This unique aid to prayer and meditation will guide you to the core of your relationship with God and your understanding of his plan for you.

Kiku's Prayer

Kiku’s Prayer

$28.99

Endo Shusaku was a renowned twentieth-century Japanese author who wrote from the unusual perspective of being both Japanese and Catholic. His work is often compared to that of Graham Greene, who himself considered Endo one of the century’s finest writers. A historical novel set in the turbulent period between the fall of the shogunate and the Meiji Restoration, Kiku’s Prayer embodies themes central to Endo’s work, including religion, modernization, and the endurance of the human spirit. In Japan, the book is considered one of his late masterpieces and has never before been translated into English. Endo’s novel is told through the eyes of Kiku, self-assured young woman from a rural village who falls in love with Seikichi, a devoted Catholic man. Practicing a faith still banned by the government, Seikichi is imprisoned and forced to recant under torture. Kiku’s efforts to reconcile her feelings for Seikichi and the sacrifices she makes to free him mirror the painful, conflicting choices Japan faced as a result of exposure to modernity and the West. Endo’s nuanced view of history is very much on display in this novel: Seikichi’s persecution exemplifies Japan’s insecurities toward the West, and Kiku’s tortured yet determined spirit represents the nation’s resilient soul. Yet Kiku’s Prayer is much more than a historical allegory. It acutely renders one woman’s troubled encounter with passion and spirituality at a transitional time in her life and in the life of her people.

Pattison writes convincingly of Tibetan culture and religion, Chinese-Tibetan politics, Himalayan geography and Navajo religious beliefs, while giving his characters believable personalities."-"The Free Lance-Star" (Fredericksburg, VA) Summoned to a remote village from the hidden lamasery where he lives, Shan, formerly an investigator in Beijing, must save a comatose man from execution for two murders in which the victims’ arms have been removed. Upon arrival, he discovers that the suspect is not Tibetan but Navajo. The man has come with his niece to seek ancestral ties between their people and the ancient Bon. The recent murders are only part of a chain of deaths. Together with his friends, the monks Gendun and Lokesh, Shan solves the riddle of Dragon Mountain, the place "where the world begins." Eliot Pattison is an international lawyer based near Philadelphia. His four previous Shan novels, set in Tibet-"The Skull Mantra" (St. Martin’s Press, 1999), "Water Touching Stone" (2001), "Bone Mountain" (2002) and "Beautiful Ghosts" (2004)-have been critical and commercial successes. He won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel and was nominated for the Crime Writers’ Association Golden Dagger Award.

Successful RFPs in Construction: Managing the Request for Proposal Process

Successful RFPs in Construction: Managing the Request for Proposal Process

$35.8

The negotiated contract method for RFPs is a rapidly growing trend in construction. Traditionally, RFPs have gone through a competitive bid method – meaning that 100% of the design work is done without the input of contractors and with very little real cost information. With the negotiated contract method, only about 10% of the design work is done before a contractor is brought to the table, which means less paperwork and lower up-front costs. There are several advantages to the negotiated contract method: -Because only a small part of the design work is done up-front (before a contractor is brought on board), no extensive re-design work has to be done when budget/schedule issues with the design become a factor. -A complete team – architect/designer and contractor – is assembled earlier, making for a much more efficient process and outcome. -The RFP process becomes a collaborative effort, rather than a competitive one. There is no other book on the shelf that either focuses specifically on RFPs in the construction industry, or features a step-by-step method for implementing the negotiated contract method. This is a step-by-step guide for managing the RFP process in a way that saves time, money, enhances team collaboration, and assures quality in construction. Focusing on the negotiated contract method (as opposed to the competitive bid method), the book takes readers from articulating the needs/wish list for a construction project, to the analysis of responses and interviews, through negotiations and finalization of the deal. This is a roadmap for: -Preparing, understanding, and assessing the quality of information in an RFP. -Gathering critical, project-specific information from free and up-to-date local databases. -Adding value to the process by assisting consultants in marketing and project management capabilities. -Selecting and working with a team early in the process to stay on-schedule and on-budget. -Improving the materials selection process and the end-result overall quality of construction. -Example and template forms make it easy to create a successful RFP process.

A Handbook of American Prayer

A Handbook of American Prayer

$3.95

A man walks into a bar. A dispute ensues, and the bartender kills him. He’s sentenced to ten years for manslaughter. In prison, the convict, Wardlin Stuart, writes prayers addressed to no god in particular. Inexplicably, his prayers — whether it’s a request for a girlfriend or a special favor for a fellow inmate — are answered, be it in days or weeks. When his collection of supplications, A Handbook of American Prayer, is published by a New York press, Stuart emerges a celebrity author. Settling into a new life in Arizona, he encounters a fundamentalist minister. The two are destined for a confrontation. In the interim, it seems that the god to whom Stuart has been praying has manifested himself on the earth. In this short novel about America’s conflicting love triangle — celebrity, spirituality, and money — Shepard negotiates the thin line between the real and the surreal, expounding upon violence and redemption along the way. This story of an unlikely American messiah shows why The Wall Street Journal has compared Shepard, an award-winning author, to Graham Greene, Robert Stone, and Ward Just.

INFANCY AND YOUTH. 1792-1808. James Gillespie Birney was born, February 4, 1792, at Danville. After the death of his mother, he and his sister were placed under the care of Mrs. Doyle, the oldest sister of his father. She was a widow and childless, and, at the request of her brother, came from Ireland to take charge of his two children and preside over his household—duties for which an affectionate nature, sound sense, good education, agreeable manners, and fervent piety peculiarly qualified her. She continued to perform them until the children were grown and until the second marriage of her brother. His house was her home until her decease, about the year 1834. Her nephew could not have been dearer to her if he had been her own son; and he returned her affection. Whenever he was at Wood- lawn, he passed much of his time with her. During his residence in Alabama he wrote to her regularly and frequently ; and when the writer was sent, in 1828, to Woodlawn on a long visit it was strictly enjoined on him to do all in his power to amuse and make her happy. These families were intelligent and in good circumstances. Mr. Gillespie bought a valuable farm about a mile from Danville, and Mr. Whelan another, four miles distant, and extending to the precipitous bluffs and romantic scenery of Dick’s River. SAD monarch of the world below, Stern guardian of this drowsy shade, Through thy unlovely realms I go To seek a captive thou hast made. O’er Stygian waters have I pass’d, Contemning Jove’s unjust decree, And reach’d thy sable court at last To find my lost Eurydice. Of all the nymphs so deckt and drest Like Venus of the starry train, She was the loveliest and the best, The pride and glory of the plain. O free from thy despotic sway This nymph of heaven-descended charms, Too soon she came this dusky way — Restore thy captive to my arms. As by a stream’s fair, verdant side, In myrtle shades she rov’d along, A serpent stung my blooming bride, This brightest of the female throng — The venom hast’ning thro’ her veins Forbid the freezing blood to flow. And thus she left the Thracian plains For these dejected groves below. Even thou may’st pity my sad pain, Since love, as ancient stories say, Forc’d thee to leave thy native reign, And in Sicilian meadows stray: Bright Proserpine thy bosom fir’d, For her you sought th’ unwelcome light, Madness and love in you conspir’d To seize her to the shades of night. But if, averse to my request, The vanish’d nymph, for whom I mourn, Must in Plutonian chambers rest, And never to my arms return — Take Orpheus too — his warm desire Can ne’er be quench’d by your decree, In life- or death he must admire, He must adore Eurydice. THE EFFICACY OF PRAYER. James v. 16. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 1 HE manner in which this passage of Scripture is rendered in our English Translation has an appearance of tautology, or repetition, which is not authorised by the Original. To say that “effectual prayer availeth much,” is using different words to express the same idea ; for unless it avail, it cannot be effectual. I think, therefore, it is rather more intelligibly rendered in the Rhemish New Testament, as follows: — “The continual prayer of a justman availeth much.” Something more, however, is implied in the expression of the Apostle than is signified by the word ” continual;” and the full meaning of the sentence seems to be this: “The ardent and assiduous, or constant, prayers of a righteous person can never fail to have great power and efficacy.” Tautologiam frigidissimam : Vide Schleusner ad voc. t Assidua — Vulg. Darrell Williams is a man on a mission. His mission is to make up for all of the wrong he has done in his life by living daily in the light of the Lord. His story is one of grace, of forgiveness, of gratitude. For almost 30 years Darrell pursued a criminal lifestyle. As an IV drug user, a crack addict and an alcoholic, he had only one goal, to score his next fix, regardless of the cost to others. He engaged in forgery, pimping, stealing, scamming and lying to get to his next high.To meet Darrell today you would never guess that he is a man with a wicked past. The people he has helped over the past seven years believe him to be an angel. Ex-cons, former drug addicts, troubled youth, and homeless vagrants all know that they can call on Darrell for help, support, and acceptance. There is no need too great for Darrell to address, and no kindness too large for him to extend.Darrell credits the Lord for his complete transformation from criminal to Christian calling on the Creator with one small prayer, “Lord, please take the taste for drugs and alcohol from me.” With that request, his life was changed. To his very core, Darrell believes that the same miracle can be extended to anyone who has the courage to ask for it, and the faith to believe that they too can be free from the grip of mind-altering substances. After reading Darrell’s story you too will believe that miracles can happen in your own life and the lives of those you love.
